Day 2: Frankfurt City & Arrival in Walldorf (by Nick and Leo)
We’ve arrived in Frankfurt City! We convened at the Paulskirche (St. Paul’s Church) to discuss our plan for the day! Our first scheduled activity was a boat ride with lunch on the Main River, which flows through the center of the city, at 11:00, so we had a couple of hours to explore the city in smaller groups. We had breakfast in many different places from local Backereien to Chipotle. Some of us walked around to absorb the city, visiting the local farmers market, called die Kleinmarkthalle, and the unique atmosphere of Frankfurt, but others preferred to take a nice stroll in one of the parks residing in the city. We regrouped on the boat to explore and learn some fun facts! There were so many bridges that spanned over the body of water, some even low enough that we could touch the beams under them with a jump! Once we deboarded, we went back on the bus that took us to the city and headed toward our new homes for the week.
Walldorf! Many of us were more than ecstatic to reunite with our host siblings after months of communication online. We arrived at a school to a familiar welcome, with our host siblings holding up signs, reading “Willkommen!” and messages of similar meaning. We quickly reunited with our host families and traveled to their homes for a much-needed rest before we explored the local area later that day! We’re looking forward to Day 3, where we have a “bring your host sibling to school day!” Tschüss! Bis morgen!
Looks like a happy group! Would love to know who is from Mahopac and who is German.
